During the
88th birthday celebration of H.H.Marthoma Baseleios Mathews II, 87 Poor girls will be distributed with
Rupees 15000 each for the celebration of their marriage. On January 30, 2002 after the Holy Qurbana Catholicos
will give away the Fund at Devalokam Catholicate Aramana, Kottayam.
During the Central Committee Meeting of the Celebrations held at Devalokam Aramana, Thomas Mathew Kumpukat presented the report. Fr.T.C.john, Fr.M.C.George, Fr.T.A.Jacob, Fr. Abraham George, Church Secretary A.K.Thomas, Paul Mathai, Prof.E.J.John and Jacob Thomas Arikupuram delivered speeches.

The day 30th
January is the 88th Birthday of our Holy Father Most.Rev.Mar
Baselios Mathews II Catholicos of the ancient throne of St.Thomas in
India. I have had more than 20 years experience in my close life with him
(years 1951 to 1972). I am having sweet reminiscences of my life with His
Holiness as a member of his Ashram and as 1st secretary to the
Bishop Mar Coorilos the Diocesan Bishop of Quilon.
I could see him very often
a praying priest in the Ashram. There was very seldom rice food and useful
drinks and he shared that food with us all. He was pleased to consume all
kinds of simple root fruits that were available in the premises. He leads
a most simple life from the very beginning till date. In the Ashram
simultaneously with prayers life he was hard working in cultivating plants
and construction works. He was not ashamed to do even the meanest works
left to be done there. Though he did not compel us to help him, we were
quite happy and enthusiastic to co operate in his activities. We felt it
was a privilege for us to work with him.
His prayer life of
fasting, kneeling, devotional readings, and outdoor works were all very
model to be copied in life because his prayer life he was known as
"Angel Achen"
And because of such holy
life he was elevated to the ranks of Rambanhood and to Episcopate .He was
found reluctant to receive higher posts. But God Almighty was with him and
gave all blessings to carry on successfully his priestly duties in God's
vineyard. He is humble, but very much sophisticated in Administration. He
was kind enough to call us a few men to priesthood, and to give us
adequate training to become priests. We are indebted to him for that and
for every care he showered on us till date. Now God has elevated him as
Catholicos and Malankara Metropolitan of Malankara Orthodox Church. How
great is God!
We thank God for giving him Grace and serene look on
his face. We also thank God for giving him long life as a good shepherd in
His Kingdom. His pleasing mind, humble character, benevolent deeds, care
of his sheep munificent nature, emphatic sermons, magnetic personality,
spiritual life, Ecumenical spirit all makes him great among all Bishops of
the 21st century in World. May God give him long life and more
grace to feed the sheep in their pasturage.

A book written by Dr. Samuel Chandanapally about H.H.Catholicos handed over to Church Trustee P.C.Abraham by the Catholicate Designate H.G.Thomas Mar Themothios.
