A tearful farewell was given to the departed Metropolitan, Benyamin Joseph Mor Osthathios who was the head of the Simhasna Churches of Syrian Jacobite Church. Simhasna Churches are the ones administered directly by the Patriarchate. Manjanikkara Dayro, situated on the hill near Omalloor, Pathanamthitta Dist. Kerala, is the seat of Patriarchal Delegates to Malankara. Mor Banyamin Joseph was also the current delegate at this Dayro. This Dayro was established as a monastery by late Elias Mor Yulius who was the Patriarchal delegate that time. Afterwards Mor Yulios was consecrated as the Patriarch. During his later visit to India, Patriarch Mor Ignatius Elias III entered eternal rest in 1932 and his mortal remains were entombed at this Dayro. Subsequently Manjanikkara Dayro became a very important spot of pilgrimage for the Syrian Jacobite Church. The remains of late Mor Yulius Elias Patriarch and Late Mor Yulius Yakub, Patriarchal delegate to Malankara are also interred in this church.

In spite of the bus strike in Kerala, thousands of people of faithful devotees of Syrian Jacobite Church and from all walk of life, crowded to pay homage to prelate of the Jacobite Church. The mortal remains of the Metropoltan was brought to Manjanikkara from Kunnamkulam after arranging for opportunity to pay homage by faithful at Simhasana Church, Manarcaud, Kottayam, Simhasana Church, Thiruvalla.

The funeral ceremonies were conducted at the Manjanikkara Dayro with H.B. Catholicose Basalios Thoma I as the main celebrant in the presence of other Metropolitans of Jacobite Church. Funeral services were commenced after celebration of Holy Qurbana. Condolence messages from H.H Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I, Patriarch of Antioch and all the East, were read at the ceremony by Mor Dionysius Geevarghese and Mor Gregorius Joseph. Holy Father in his message stated, the demise of Mor Osthathios is a great lose to the Universal Syriac Church. The mortal remains was laid to the tomb aside that of Late Mor Yulius Yakoob.

Funeral services were attended by Prelates of other Christian denominations, social organizations and political leaders. Other than the Metropolitans of Jacobite Church, Marthoma Metropolitan Mar Crysostum, Joshua Mor Ignathiose, Joseph Mar Coorilos, former Union minister P.C. Thomas M.P, UDF Convener Ommen Chandy, Minister T.M. Jacob were some of the dignitaries attended the function.
